The composition is inspired by the movie's concept of moving back and forth in time and place. The main character Captain Colter Stevens relives death repeatedly in the body of a train accident victim — Sean Fentress. The line in the middle of the composition follows the events Colter goes through in each venture and how he makes it back to the lab as Colter or the train as Sean. At the end of the movie, Colter’s life continues in a different direction— in this case, a different universe, which is visualized through the line continuing off to the side.
The styling for this poster aims to evoke a technological/sci-fi feeling by resembling the colors of monochrome computer screens, inspired by the movie. Moreover, the shapes and lines used in the poster resemble circuit structures but also resemble vitals, to emphasize the connection between health and technology which kept Colter’s brain alive and later allowed him a new life in an alternate universe.
